Team Dude’s Chris Finn takes New Zealand Championship
Hot off his comfortable win at the Aussie Open, Team Dude’s Chris Finn headed across the Tasman Sea to compete in the New Zealand Disc Golf Championships. The tournament was played on February 8 – 10 on a new course at the Woodhill Mountain Bike Park near the Kiwi disc golf hot bed of Auckland. DUDE sponsored the event which consisted of a casual Doubles tournament on Friday and the singles championship contested on Saturday and Sunday.
The chance to compete in New Zealand’s biggest disc golf tournament not only drew a few competitors from Australia, but also brought some of the best players from around NZ. The field of 64 brought players representing the disc golf communities in Rotorua, Queenstown, Wanaka, and Wellington among others.
On Sunday afternoon Chris Finn entered the final 18 with a one throw lead in the Men’s Open division over David Keene. David threw a very solid one under par 55, and Chris was able to hold him off for the title by throwing an equal 55. After 72 holes of disc golf, Chris and took the New Zealand Disc Golf National Championship in the Men’s Open division by a single throw.
